Level Training & Completion
Each year cadets are expected to complete certain Performance Objectives as part of their training.
These will increase in complexity over the training system, as a cadet ages. In Level One ( the cadets first year) and Level Two – the training objectives are experienced based, the cadet has to be there and participate. By Level Three and Four – it is a mixture of experience based and some PO’s that require demonstrating skills in certain things.
Our training year runs parallel to the school year, and we mark cadets complete or incomplete their training level in June.
Our HQ has recently ( fall 2023) changed some of what you need to complete – such that it should be easier for cadets to complete their training level.
It is still on the cadets to complete the training required. This is a mixture of things – and while some are level specific – there are common items cadets need to complete each year. I’ll summarize below.
Some of this is a change from prior years, in that it is distinctly LESS you have to do to complete a level. There are still things you need to complete / be there for, but it is noticeably less.
Some cadets have some misconceptions on what is required to pass under the new system.
With that pre-amble out of the way – here is a quick primer on what you need to do to pass:
Pass Level One
Participate in community service.
Safety class and fire air cadet rifle.
Annual review attendance
complete physical activity tracker for 4 weeks
complete cadet fitness test
Attend 18 elemental classes ( flying, survival) (if you have great wed attendance, you have this locked in, and FTX helps)
Participate in leadership as a team member ( FTX is great for this)
attend phase training
Attend CF or Civic famil.
Pass Level two
Participate in community service.
Annual review attendance
complete physical activity tracker for 4 weeks

Attend 18 elemental classes ( flying, survival) (if you have great wed attendance, you have this locked in, and FTX helps)

Or look it up yourself on the Training Management guide.
Lets go into some deep dives on PO’s:
So what did we count as community service?
Anything that had a positive effect on a group outside of the cadet sqn. We’ve done lots this training over the years, from food drives to helping the Legion. We’ve helped with Remembrance Parades, the Octoberfest parade, and the Firefighters Christmas Basket Fund, and our clean up at Lisaard House. The bonus is these same events we can also sign off for you for High School Volunteer Hours. And there has been lots of other information already posted about that.
Items to help the squadron ? They don’t count towards community service. Never have.
So what did we count towards CF Famil?
There have been several events this year were cadets could experience a bit about the Canadian Forces. We also counted the recent visit we had from the WRPS service towards that PO.
Fire the Air Cadet Rifle?
We’ve shot the rifle at cadet events 4 times this year. One more is coming up. Many cadets have skipped these events. It is a requirement to complete first year of cadets, and for cadets whom have fast-tracked, that still includes you. You didn’t have to score well on the range, some of you missed the target entirely when you shot. You can get better – but you had the experience of safely shooting on a controlled range with cadets. That’s a pass.
Fitness Test?
Cadets should do the fitness test. Its’ a good benchmark for you health, balancing flexibility, strength and cardio. If you did not make it to that, we can count other times you have participated with cadets in sports.
4 Week Physical Tracker
Cadets are working on this now ( or should be). It was a sheet they took home to look at their fitness levels for 4 weeks. We suggest it went somewhere prominent ( family fridge ) so it didn’t get forgotten. Cadets will complete and hand in. Copies are still available at the Armoury on the bulletin board, and were posted to this website. These must be completed / handed into CI Horton at the end of May.
Most of the other Performance Objectives are self explanatory.
What if we don’t complete level training?
Next year we’ll slide you forward into the next level, with an incomplete on the prior level. When you complete those missing items, we’ll close that item, and mark the level complete. So if you don’t shoot the Air Cadet rifle till Dec 2024, that’s when you’ll be considered to have passed L1. You’re still a cadet. You can still participate. It will move back things like promotions, which are incumbent on level completion.
From the Training Management Guide- available to all cadets on C365:
Qualification
The training year qualification is awarded to a cadet upon completion of the requirements specified in Section 3 – Cadet Progression and Achievement.
Cadets Not Meeting the Qualification Standard
In accordance with CANCDTGEN 010-18, Training Results in Fortress, a PO result of “Incomplete/Did not participate” will not end in a cadet failing their training level. Selecting this training result means a cadet is not qualified for the specific PO. Training will be updated by the corps/squadron once a cadet completes the PO.
After the training year has been completed, cadets will automatically be enrolled into the following training level and will begin the new training level in September. However, there is still a requirement for those cadets to qualify in their incomplete POs.
Cadets can work towards both training levels at the same time, though activities will not count towards both training levels at one time.
Waivers will not be granted for POs or training years.
Examples of cadets not meeting the qualification standard:
A Year 2 cadet did not complete X05.
The cadet moves on to Year 3.
In Year 3, the first instance of X05 will complete X05 for Year 2.
The second time that the cadet participates in X05, they will satisfy the requirements for Year 3.
A Year 1 cadet only completed 15 periods of elemental training.
The cadet moves on to Year 2.
The first 3 periods of elemental training that they complete will satisfy their 18 periods from the previous training year.
After completion of those 18 periods, the 18 periods for the current training year will begin.
Is any of this a surprise?
No. We’ve spoken to the cadets about this numerous times. The Older cadets may be surprised, as many of the key benchmarks they met are no longer required.
